The Institute of Computer Science (ICS), in partnership with the Young Software Engineers’ Society (YSES), hosted a quiz contest entitled ‘Pwede Pa-Quiz?’ in the ICS Mega LectureHall last February 14, 2017. This event is just one of the many activities prepared by the Institute of Computer Science as a part of the ICS Week and the Celebration of the Institute’s 22nd year of establishment.

The registration of the participating teams started at 7:00 pm. Each team was made up of two (2) students and one (1) faculty. This setup was designed by the faculty so that the students and instructors can bond and have fun.

The event began with the opening remarks, which was delivered by Almer Mendoza, the Chief Executive Officer of the YSES. This was followed by the introduction of the judges, namely: Ms. Bernadette Pelaez, Ms. Emerald Fallarme, and Ms. Miyah Queliste.

After the introduction of the judge, 11 participating teams were introduced: Team Joan, HTeaML’s, Red Joohn, AGGNMM, #Sawiiiiii, Teammy Turner, BETS NA BETS, DDS, Keidiewards, and b0$xs k@t##.

The game consisted of 3 rounds: EZ, Keri and GG. Each round lasted for 15 minutes and had a corresponding point system for each correct/wrong/no answer. The questions included were from CMSC 2, CMSC 11, CMSC 22, CMSC 21, CMSC 56 and CMSC 57.

The contestants answered the questions in a limited amount of time, depending on the type of question. Each team wrote their answers on a whiteboard, and as the emcees announce the correct answer, proctors input their respective scores to the scoring system through the proctors’ mobile phones.

As the game progressed, the questions for each round increased its difficulty. Nevertheless, this did not stop the competing teams to give out their best.

After checking and verifying the scores in the system, the top three winners were announced. The team who bagged the first place is Keidiewards; b0$xs k@t# won second place; and BETS NA BETS won the third place. They were given with a Certificate of Recognition and each team was given a monetary prize.

The event ended after Ms. Bernadette Pelaez gave the closing remarks. Not all participants might have won, but they went home with smiles on their faces as they were given a chance to bond and have fun with their instructors and fellow students, a happy Valentine’s day, indeed.
